Leeds City Art Gallery has an internationally acclaimed collection of paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture. Regularly holds exhibitions and there are opportunities for local artists to display their work. The Henry Moore Institute adjoins the gallery and offers opportunities to study contemporary sculpture. The Craft Centre and Design Gallery (situated in the same complex) exhibits a wide range of crafts including ceramics, fabrics and jewellery. This mill building in a model village built by Victorian philanthropist Titus Salt now houses the world's largest collection of work by David Hockney. The 1853 Gallery showcases his art from early drawings to recent paintings, The 2nd Gallery includes photographs and multi fax pictures, and the Stages Exhibition houses opera sets, costume designs, paintings and drawings. There are a number of shops and restaurants in the building, some of which have good examples of contemporary design in home furnishings.

Set in the former home of Edward Akroyd, the largest wool manufacturer in Britain. this centre for contemporary craft has an internationally important collection of textiles and costumes. Exhibits include a Diaghilev ballet costume and Igbo masquerade dress; embroideries from India and China; woven cloth from Africa and Burma, and a unique collection of textiles from Eastern Europe collected between 1900 and 1914.

The Victorian home of a local mill-owning family, Bagshaw Museum has artefacts from around the world including Egypt, South Africa, South Asia and India. Many of these were collected by Violet Bagshaw, who continued to travel the world until she was 100 years old. The Fabric of Batley gallery looks at local history through the mills, mansions and terraces of the local area.

Temple Newsam has one of the finest publicly owned collections of English decorative art outside London. Blackwell was designed by Arts and Crafts architect M H Baillie Scott as a holiday home for Sir Edward Holt, a brewer from Manchester. Completed in 1900, it stands at the crossroads of Victorian design and 20th century architecture. Much of the original interior decoration has survived intact and been preserved to combine distinctive architecture, craft and the applied arts. There are good examples of furniture, carving and woodwork, tiling, fabrics and paintings.

A booklet gives details of a walking tour across Bradford that takes in a range of sculpture including traditional statues and contemporary installations. Of particular note are: Questor, a steel sculpture by Keith McCarter; camera Lucida, a series of glass panels by Tim Head; Connecting the City (or The Needle) by Rick Faulkner; Poertry and Film Benches - street furniture inscribed with poetry by local schoolchildren, and Fibres by Ian Randall.
